News from Kindergarten
During literacy we have been working through the Heggerty program and in the last few weeks of kinder we have been focusing on blending words.
When we blend, we put two small words together to make a big word e.g rain - bow = rainbow.
EYLF outcome 5:children are effective communicators.
5.1 Children interact verbally and non-verbally with others for a range of purposes.
Learning to blend small words into compound words helps children expand their vocabulary and communicate more clearly and creatively.
5.2 Children engage with a range of texts and gain meaning from these texts.
Understanding compound words supports children’s emerging literacy skills, making it easier to decode and comprehend new words.
5.3 Children express ideas and make meaning using a range of media.
Blending words supports children in playing with language and expressing new ideas through combining familiar concepts.
